Reflexology - more than a foot massage
If you’ve ever had a good foot massage, you surely know how much it can relax your body and mind. The main reason why this happens could be explained by reflexology. This practice is about applying pressure on specific points in the lower part of the foot, and often on the palms and ears as well, in order to release tension, pain and other unpleasant feelings.
Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, reflexology belongs to one of the healing methods of traditional Chinese medicine, which is a medicinal system with a history of a thousand years. According to the principles of it, inside the body of every one of us, the energy of Qi is flowing. When we are under stress or are subjected to any negative emotions, Qi gets blocked in some places, which causes health complications.
Fortunately, it’s possible to release these blockages using reflexology. There are points on our feet, and each of them is connected to a different body part. With their compression, the release of blocked energy takes place, thus fixing the issue, whether it’s regarding the musculoskeletal system, psyche or an internal organ.
What are the most common problems fixed by reflexology? We live in a chaotic time, where information is spreading faster than ever. Therefore, a lot of us naturally feel pressure in various aspects of our life, whether it’s work, health, or relationships. It’s no wonder that the main reason why people turn to reflexology is stress relief. These feelings are primarily connected to the solar plexus, and the reflex point connected to it is located in the middle between the joints under the thumb and little finger.
However, stress is not expressed just mentally. When it is long term, it can manifest physically as well, in the form of headaches and migraine. Your head is simply so burdened that your body tries to stop thought processes the only way it knows - pain. You can get relief from migraines by pressuring the point in the pit between the bones of the thumb and index finger from the upper side of the foot.
However, health complications don’t have to be stress-related only. The number of people dealing with digestion issues is enormous; that’s why reflexology has a lot of fans in this aspect as well. If you want to put your stomach at ease, put pressure on the inner part of the foot arch, approximately two thirds away from the heel. To stimulate the small intestine, move lower to the middle of the foot arch, while the point of the large intestine can be found in the upper part of the heel.
There are a lot of issues that can be dealt with through reflexology. If you want to have a home therapy, find a reflexology map that will help you find the right spots, and therefore improve your health and overall life quality.
